Make a coffee stop at General Store (a stone’s throw from us) and perfect for sitting outside and watching the world go by.
It’s a beautiful walk to the Dean Garnier garden by the Cathedral and a longer, but even prettier, walk through the Water Meadows to St Cross Hospital (it’s not a hospital but England’s oldest surviving almshouse) and the walled garden there is just glorious. Pure Trollope.

Head back to the Wykeham Arms for a quintessential pub lunch in this iconic Winchester venue. If you’re interested, the chef was this year’s runner up on Masterchef: The Professionals so he knows his way round a pan fried trout and a confit of rabbit. We also love Bento for sushi, bibimbap and bao (and Jo’s particularly delicious cookies. Ask Finn for details).

Pre-dinner cocktails at Cabinet Rooms. Owners Marcus and Gary are long time friends of the shop and have run the bar at our occasional parties so we can vouch for their mixing skills. They serve bar snacks in the evening or you could have a fancy supper at The Chesil Rectory.
