The Hambledon x Reworked 348

This collaboration has been cooking for a while. In fact, it was a conversation on Instagram way back in December 2022 between Rob and Jon, that became the catalyst for our first capsule collection with Reworked 348. Born out of a mutual love of workwear and sustainable manufacturing, along with full access to Reworked 348’s incredible deadstock fabric archive in Derby, we set to work creating our three exclusive pieces. The brief was simple: make three timeless wardrobe staples that will age beautifully and be treasured for years to come.

The Wolfe Jacket is partly based on an existing Reworked idea and named after Dominic. The plan was simple: a lightweight jacket in a clean, contemporary silhouette. Inspired by an old, tried-and-tested piece from Rob’s collection, we used deep navy drywax weatherproof fabric, added a pocket layout from the Reworked 348 archive, and a hidden two-way front zip. The fabric will gain character and become unique over time.

The Barker Shirt is a vintage-inspired piece with a Reworked twist, named after James from our digital team. We wanted a true everyman garment. Made from deep navy twill, we updated the collar, reimagined the pocket layout, and added tonal buttons. It works as an Autumn/Winter overshirt and transitions into spring. Each piece was garment washed for an exceptional handle, and the fit is just right.

The Humby Vest is a true Reworked signature garment and is named after our man of many talents, Richard. We didn’t need to change the fit, as Reworked nailed it perfectly. We constructed the Humby from a deep navy cotton wax micro canvas, with a subtle pocket layout, taped and bound seams, and a tonal two-way zip.

The Wolfe Jacket is partly based on an existing Reworked idea and is named after our very own Dominic. The plan was simple: to make a lightweight jacket in a clean, contemporary silhouette. The design originated from an old, tried-and-tested piece dug out from Rob’s collection. For the construction, we chose a deep navy drywax weatherproof fabric, then incorporated a pocket layout lifted from the Reworked 348 archive, and added a hidden two-way front zip. The nature of the fabric means this jacket will gain character and become unique over its lifespan.

The Barker Shirt is another iteration of a vintage piece with a Reworked twist, and is named after James from our digital team. We wanted the shirt to be our true everyman garment. Constructed from a deep navy twill, we updated the collar shape, reimagined the pocket layout, and added tonal buttons to finish. The Barker works as an Autumn/Winter overshirt but transitions perfectly into a spring outerwear piece. To achieve the exceptional handle, we garment washed each piece individually. The fit is just right.

At the Reworked 348 workshop in Derby, Rob sat down to discuss craft, heritage, and our exclusive capsule collection.

What was the catalyst moment that made you think, I’m going to start making menswear?

By my early teens, I was already thinking about what I wore and how I wanted to look. In the mid 1980s aged 16, I started on the government YTS scheme, working in an independent men’s clothing store on Sadlergate in Derby. I knew right then I was working in the industry I loved.

From there, I went on to work for different brands and then worked for many years in denim and cotton mills based in northern Italy.

I’ve spent my entire working life in the clothing and textile industry—but deep down, the dream was always the same: to create a brand and make the clothes I wanted to wear.

I was once told that the most important thing is a good relationship with the factory. Did you have a relationship with your factory before Reworked 348, or did you have to go and find production?

I’ve spent many years working with garment makers in the UK and different parts of the world. I’ve always been fascinated by factories and the making process. Sadly, due to globalisation, most of the UK factories I worked with fell by the wayside, but a few survived.

At Reworked 348, we make everything in the UK, using UK-made deadstock / left over fabrics, some of the finest premium materials you’ll find anywhere. Supporting UK makers feels right for us, keeping the skills alive on these shores, the quality is first-class and their depth of knowledge adds so much to the finished product.

All design, development, and sampling happens in our Derby studio. For production, we work with three small independent makers, two in Derby and one in a neighbouring county. They’re old school, highly skilled craftspeople who survived when many others didn’t. We visit them regularly, building strong bonds over time, it feels like they’re a part of Reworked 348.

What influences you?

We only make clothes we’d love to wear ourselves—if we wouldn’t wear it, it doesn’t make the collection.

Alongside using premium deadstock fabrics, we also rework vintage workwear, unissued military and utilitarian pieces. We look for the small details, such as a pocket or even a buttonhole, the functionality and the way they’re made, the construction methods, they all inspire what we do. Right now, the 1990s is a big influence together with a subtle nod to the football terraces.

Derby has a rich history of textile production. It must feel good to be part of that legacy?

It feels right for Reworked 348 to produce in Derby and the surrounding counties. Derby was a big part of the Industrial Revolution, with textile mills lining the River Derwent. This area was home to a thriving garment industry for decades, but in the 1980s, much of the work disappeared overseas.

We’re committed to making in the UK, it just feels right for Reworked 348.

We are delighted that you agreed to produce the capsule collection with us. How has it been different compared to how you would normally design pieces?

At Reworked 348, we believe in collaboration—not just creatively, but as a way to build a more sustainable future for the industry, which is why we only use deadstock / existing materials wherever possible.

Working with the good people at The Hambledon has been a very enjoyable experience. The ideas and designs were completely in line with our way of thinking. The Hambledon’s experience and knowledge around product has been very insightful, combined with our knowledge of fabric, make and construction, this made this an ideal collaboration.

Which of the three pieces are you personally taking home? Which is your favourite from our capsule?

The three pieces work really well together. But if I had to choose one, the jacket with the two-way zip is my favourite piece. It’s made from a beautiful 100% micro-cotton canvas produced in the North of England, with a light wax finish for shower resistance. The two-way zip (made in Leicester) makes it perfect for layering and styling.

This collaboration is available in store and online exclusively from The Hambledon. Pieces are limited.

This is an exclusive collaboration with our friends at Reworked 348, a British company specialising in production using only deadstock materials. The limited edition collection is inspired by our shared love of classic workwear and celebrates a more sustainable approach to menswear.
