JODIE'S GUIDE TO

Cornwall

Every part of Cornwall feels special in its own way, but North Cornwall, around the Camel Estuary, has some of the most beautiful white sandy and dune-backed beaches, alongside dramatic coastal walks.

One of our favourite hidden spots is at Pentire Headland. Park up and follow the small footpath over the cliffs to a tiny beach known locally as Cowrie, named for the shells you can find there. In summer, the water is crystal clear, making it one of the best swimming spots around.

In Rock, Four Boys cafe is a must. Run by four local brothers, it serves some of the most delicious fresh pasta and salads among other interesting things!

From Rock, take the ferry across to Padstow and visit Prideaux Walled Garden. Tucked away up a quiet alley near the harbour, it’s a peaceful, historic space with a beautifully restored bothy serving handmade cakes, alongside flowers and local produce from the garden. It’s the perfect escape on an inevitably rainy Cornish summer’s day.

Back in Rock, Bluntrock Brewery offers a different kind of atmosphere. Set in shipping containers, it’s part brewery, part bar, with pop-up street food and excellent vibes to be enjoyed in the golden evening light.

Further west, Cornwall becomes wilder and more artistic. Prussia Cove feels almost untouched by time, like stepping back into the 1930s. Still owned by the same family, the cottages perched along the cliffs remain completely unmodernised, preserving their romantic history and character. The small rocky beach below is stunning in summer, its white stones giving the water a remarkable clarity. It also served as the setting for Ladies in Lavender, which only adds to its romantic, cinematic feel.

For a day trip, head to Helford. The Ferry Boat Inn is a personal favourite, or you can take the tiny ferry across the estuary to The Shipwright’s Arms (also known as my colleague Richard's Favourite Pub in the World).
