Alex Monroe Trunk Show and Briolette Event

The team from Alex Monroe will be in store on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th November customising your jewellery purchases with their beautiful briolettes. To celebrate the event at The Hambledon our roving documentary team (we know them as Sim and Amy) went to the studio in Bermondsey to see the master at work.

Alex Monroe

Making pasta with fashion editors; making jam with influencers; starting a regenerative farming project in Suffolk; working as a charity trustee; sketching boat chains at the Martime Museum in Greenwich and spending time at his work bench: such is the working week of Alex Monroe, founder of the eponymous English jewellery brand. We met Alex in his studio, surrounded by archive boxes, sketchbooks, plants, field guides for native birds, vintage tins and the tools of his very hands on trade.

Pastimes

Alex, known for his delicate, nature inspired jewellery, was brought up in rural Suffolk, surrounded by wildlife, rivers and forests. This natural environment continues to be a rich source of inspiration for him. But for AW24 he moves a little closer to his London base with a collection drawn from the hobbies and interests of the team who surround him. Following from his previous Votives collection and drawing from a very early necklace he made of his own hammer and saw tools, Pastimes celebrates the gardeners, photographers, puzzlers, philatelists et al.

What actually is a Briolette?

A briolette is a faceted gemstone, first created during the 17th century in India and made popular in the Victorian era. It is usually drilled to hang as a bead embellishment.
