Who and What is Falcon?
Originally manufactured in the Black Country, historically known for its coal mines and steel mills, Joe Kleiner & Sons created this iconic enamelware brand in the 1920s. In 2010 the brand was relaunched by New Zealand and British husband and wife design duo Kiwi and Pom (the name makes perfect sense now). Focussing on timeless shapes but with seasonal injections of colour, the brand has been given a new lease of life for the 21st century.
Enamelware (for those of you without A level chemistry) is porcelain (glass and clay) fused onto heavy-gauge steel, giving it many admirable qualities including smoothness, chemical resistance and, for the butterfingers out there, durability. If you drop it, it may chip but it won’t break and is still safe to use (if you keep it clean). It’s dishwasher and oven safe (up to 270 degrees C, and that’s hotter than most recipes known to humankind). It can be used on gas and electric hobs. Falcon Enamelware uses a heavier gauge of steel than many of their competitors so the product is more hard-wearing and durable. Look out for the falcon crest at the bottom of the products, it’s their stamp of authenticity.
