Catwalk Inspiration

90s fashion gets a makeover for the 2020s. At the Paris shows Givenchy, Burberry, Loewe and Hermes each offered up their versions of classic American air force MA-1 jackets in trademark khaki, accessorised with knee high boots and slinky skirts. Dior and Miu Miu ventured into pattern with bold biker jackets while Prada embraced the oversized with luxe sateen fabrications, both belted and loose, featuring dramatic embellishments of feathers and striking lining and Alberta Ferretti flew the flag for silvery sheens. This is a trend where strong roots in practical workwear easily segue into high fashion.

Amelia Earhart

The original fashion icon for air force chic, Amelia Earhart is the genuine article. She was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and is our muse for the Bellerose Reversible Belay Jacket. Taking inspiration from her 1930s heyday and classic androgynous style from the inter war years, we’re layering the jacket satin side up (4), cosy side down (3) for those chilly flights in the Lockhead Vega B, with a crisp cream silk shirt from Sacre Coeur (1), a gently knotted Petula Sia scarf (2) from BeckSondergaard and the Oda wide leg pants (5), Oxford bags style, from Resume. If you need an icon from the silver screen, look to Katherine Hepburn for this timeless style.

Top Gun

Referencing the 1986 classic Top Gun (not the recent remake), we’re all about Kelly McGillis’ all American woman in signature flight jacket and stonewashed jeans. Her wardrobe choices play with the juxtaposition of traditional masculine and feminine dress codes, liberally borrowing military styling and mixing with a strong 80s aesthetic. Recreate with the Bellerose Heyden Jacket (1 - check out the zip pocket on the sleeve for full Maverick effect), a simple Sunray Na’Maka’Oh tee (2), the Agolde 90s Pinch (4 - the clue’s in the name, this is a jean referencing the period), some Spring Court High Tops (3) and some vintage-inspired Ivy Ellis socks (5).

Roller Disco

Never not the time for a silvery jacket. Seen on the runway at the Alberta Ferretti show, we’re opting for a more accessible version (both in terms of price point and styling) with the Lolly’s Laundry Phoenix Bomber (1). We’re keeping the whole thing glittery and sparkly. This is for the magpies amongst you, those who are incorrigibly attracted to shininess. It’s a Lolly’s Laundry strike with the Henry trouser (3) and the Ellen blouse (5 - not strictly a blouse, more a super luxe long sleeve tee). Maximise the magpie with the BeckSondergaard sequin Glitsen Candi bag (4) and some Grainne Morton earrings (2).

Supersize Me

This is the fashionista’s choice. We mimic Prada’s exaggerated proportions, as worn by Kendall Jenner at the Paris show, with the marvellous, and fully reversible, Elaina jacket from Stine Goya (1). Wear silver side out for some disco drama (see above) and print side out for a prettier look (see right). Team with the brand new Apiece Apart Suerte skirt (3) and knee high Patti boots (5) for a real runway steal. Accessorise with our very favourite fake fur Muun Hund bag (2) and the Paillettes choker necklace from Saskia Diez (4).

Print and Pattern

Patchwork prints might conjure thoughts of the cottage core trend of previous seasons but Sea New York’s Talia Jacket (1) undercuts the whimsy and cuteness with a boyish bomber shape and solid black trim. We’ve further undercut the pretty by pairing with some simple high waisted black pants (loving the wide leg Dominic from Bellerose - 5),a plain knit (Apiece Apart’s perennial Merel jumper in cream - 4) and a clean, modern bag (the Muun Sam G quilted tote - 6). Complete the look with a pair of Reeta Glitter socks (2) tucked into some Shoe The Bear Iona Loafers (3).
