Birthday Boy & Birthday Girl

We absolutely love, love, love a celebration. Join us as we mark the birthdays of two very special Hambledoners (well, all Hambledoners are special obviously): Joe and Jodie. Although the shop may be closed, we are still very much working here at no. 10 but we took a little time from our busy schedules for a little party.

First the Introductions

Joe is the new boy. He arrived just before Christmas, highly recommended by his extremely biased brother Sim, who works in our pick and pack department. Turns out Sim’s rose tinted spectacles are more than justified and we’re delighted to have Joe on board, gamely working in menswear; ably assisting Harriett; and happily wielding a tape gun.

Jodie was last year’s temp and made herself an absolutely indispensable part of our permanent online team. If you have received a parcel, beautifully packed with a cute note and a lot of biodegradable packing chips (which smell weirdly of salt and vinegar crisps), likely it was from Jodie. She comes from a dynasty (yep, three generations and counting) of Hambledon customers.

Party Food and Party Decorations

Let’s start with the important part. Jasper, our baker in residence, stepped up with a chocolate fudge cake for Joe and lemon and poppy seed for Jodie. And if you feel compelled to get your own whisk and spatula out, here’s a recipe for the chocolate cake from Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall.

Beautifully merchandised, as you would expect, with a scattering of Meri Meri candles and a lovely cake stand. And a balloon arch over the main staircase. Never knowingly understated. And just in case you think we’re doing dry January, beverage in the form of our namesake sparkling from Hambledon Vineyard, just down the road.

The Gifts?

Joe was a Basement customer long before he ever worked here so we knew something from Menswear was required. We gifted a brand new SS21 Nanamica tee (very helpful to have a brother on staff to gather the wishlist information). Turns out Joe’s something of a homebody too so a few pieces of Falcon Enamelware for some hearty home cooking.

Bella got the inside track on Jodie’s birthday list (always helpful to have a long time friend as a colleague). Turns out Jodie’s obsessed with the new Granada Ceramics bowl and the Hay tongs (it’s for her pasta suppers, don’t you know). Turns out she’s also obsessed (along with most Hambledon staffers and customers alike) with brand new Bellerose. There was a box fresh Iueke dress (coming online soon) in her parcel for some keenly anticipated Spring days.

Have a special birthday coming up? All the wherewithal for gifts, cards and party decs are online now. Sadly our resident chef and his baked goods are not yet listed on the website. You’ll have to cook the cakes yourself.
