Summer Jewellery: Earth, Sky and Sea
We've had such exciting deliveries of jewellery this week so we've put together some looks that require us to wear lots and lots at the same time. For jewellery layering tips, follow our handy hints.
We've had such exciting deliveries of jewellery this week so we've put together some looks that require us to wear lots and lots at the same time. For jewellery layering tips, follow our handy hints.
It's always good to have a theme (you must surely know us by now) and our jewellers seem to have taken inspiration from the elements in nature for this season. Whilst we wanted to base our shoot around Earth, Wind and Fire, just for the lols you understand, we are instead opting for the slightly less 70s, if also slightly less catchy, theme of Earth, Sky and Sea. Encompassing Alex Monroe's hedgerow inspired delicacy, Louise Hendricks' sparkly stars and Anni Lu's beachside vibes.
Combine different necklace lengths and styles. We loved mixing more delicate, illustrative motifs on simple chains with chunkier chains and simple geometric shapes. Keep to odd numbers of chains. We're not sure why this works, but it does. And don't be afraid to mix different metals. We've kept it simple and monotone here but there's no reason silver and gold can't work together.
With our feet firmly on the ground, we've taken some pieces from Alex Monroe's beautiful, delicate and nature inspired collection 'Natural Life' (the asymmetric dandelion earrings and the dandelion necklace) and pieces from his classic bee theme and layered these with the simpler, more geometric forms of Pernille Corydon.
Time to look upwards and seek inspiration from the skies. Two jewellers are making their debut at the shop this week and stars are a recurring motif. Shashi, founded by New York friends Danna Kobo and Yuvi Alpert, is bringing a little bit of East Coast cool and rock and roll chic to the table. Louise Hendricks, working from her studio in the Marais in Paris, is the queen of artisan charm. Check out the constellations on show with the Shashi Trinity stud, Louise Hendricks Celeste earrings and Elisa North Star necklace and our trusty Pernille Corydon Lunar Star.
Alex Monroe's latest collection, entitled 'Oceans' and born from increasing environmental concern about pollution in the ocean, celebrates the beauty and majesty of the sea. Our particular edit is a studied homage to the starfish, featuring asymmetric earrings, constellation necklace and bracelet and ring. Anni Lu, in her inimitable laid back Danish style, brings more of the beachcomber to the story. The Surf Sweet Waves bracelet is a pretty riff on tiny beach pebbles; the freshwater pearls lending a relaxed glamour to the occasion. And we've added some Shashi glamour to the mix with the Pearl Pave huggie.
All the jewellery we sell (with the exception of Louis Hendricks which is gold plated brass and some Anni Lu beaded pieces) is either sterling silver or gold plated sterling silver and does need a little TLC. Gold plated jewellery can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft brush (be sure to dry it thoroughly). Silver jewellery can be cleaned using a specialist silver dip. Always remove your jewellery before entering the pool, shower or sea and before doing any strenuous exercise. Make sure you apply fragrance and cosmetics before you put jewellery on as these products can sometimes tarnish the metals.
Check out how we've put it all together and put together your own combinations. Inspired by the earth, the sea, the sky or whatever the hey you like.
