SS18: Still Life
Because we buy so many different things, and because we’re very, very fortunate to have lots of loyal customers, and because we love a little bit of a project, we like to make a new story for the shop every season. This is a narrative on which to hang our wares; a theme which reflects trends we’ve seen in both fashion and homeware and is a way of both reinventing and unifying the store.
We have titled Spring 2018 ‘Still Life’. And it is an English tale of chalky skies and washed out colour, played out on a windswept beach with a group of modernist artists as the cast of characters. We are happily imagining the palette and geometry of Ben Nicholson, the luminous colour and imagery of Winifred Nicholson and the sweeping forms of Barbara Hepworth. Let’s hope you can see the strands which weave the story in the chrome yellow of an Anecdote sweater, the period prints of a Kiran Ravilious cushion (yep, she is a relative), the geometrics of Littlephant’s china, the simplicity of a Springcourt tennis pump.
Have a look at our Pinterest board to see the artists, paintings and landscapes that have inspired us. And check back in a month or so for our Summer story, Still Life’s polar opposite ‘Silverlake’.
