Card Shop in the Project Space

Move over Paperchase. Step aside Scribbler. What even is Clintons? For the next couple of months, we’re turning our Project Space into a pop up card shop, featuring our trusted favourite designers and new kids on the stationery block.

The Funnies (and the Rudes)

These are the cards designed to make you grin. There’s nothing like giving someone a belly laugh, or a chuckle or even a wry smile for their birthday and this may be the most popular section in our greetings card armoury. Humour at The Hambledon runs the gamut from Vicky Simmons’ Mean Mail (the clue’s in the name) and Ashkahn’s neon pink swears to the gentle puns of Egg Press and the slightly rude calligraphy from Imogen Owen. And who doesn’t want a Yes Paper Goods Scratch and Sniff card? Perfect for your very best friends. Not so perfect if you’re trying to impress your boyfriend’s granny.

The Pretties

The lovely Caroline Kent, founder of Scribble & Daub, is the leader of this particular pack with her delicate line drawings with simple, inked colour: featuring candy floss, confetti and sparklers and other signifiers of a happy time. She has recently collaborated with Charleston on a range of floral illustrations so expect to see some fresh botanicals too. We particularly loved the Queen Anne’s lace. Wanderlust Paper Co, the illustrator Lucy Brackin’s stationery business, is awash with the very prettiest of images: stars and tiles and handsome Roman profiles. These are perfect for your stylish friends.

The Nostalgics

There is quite a trend for Victoriana. Archivist (known for their matchboxes) and brand new Passenger Press are mining this rich seam with antique typefaces and historic engravings reworked for more modern messaging. These are good for any of your Steampunk relatives, especially the boys.

The Kids

Petra Boase is definitely play leader in the kids’ group. From silly animals with balloons to graphic risograph typographic prints to cute bears with party hats and circus animals in action, Petra is all about sending a joyous message in her signature bright neon colours. Egg Press’s Snappy Birthday crocodile, Happy Bearthday Bear and Monstrously Good Monster keep up the animal quota and new Ola flies the flag for simple sophistication with their primary graphics. These are perfect for the young, and the young at heart!

The Dogs

Dogs in the canine sense. Absolutely not dogs in a pejorative sense. These are everyone’s favourite cards. Meri Meri may well be the Best in Show in this category. Who doesn’t need a concertina dog party? Or an extra long fold out dachshund card. And if you’re more interested in silly punning, try Egg Press You’re the Shitzu or Yappy Birthday and Petra Boase’s cute British Bulldog comes with a paper balloon too!

Now’s the time to send a good, old fashioned card. Remind your dearest (and currently not necessarily nearest) that you’re thinking of them. Nothing nicer than getting a note through the post rather than a quick fire email. Browse the full range in store and online.
